Alexander The Great’s Last 3 Wishes

alexander-the-great-arturas-slapsysAlexander, after conquering many kingdoms, was returning home. On the way, he fell ill and it took him to his death bed. With death staring him in his face, Alexander realized how his conquests, his great army, his sharp sword and all his wealth were of no use.

He now longed to reach home to see his mother’s face and bid her adieu. But, he had to accept the fact that his sinking health would not permit him to reach his distant homeland. So, the mighty conqueror lay prostrate and pale, helplessly waiting to breathe his last. He called his generals and said, “I will depart from this world soon, I have three wishes, please carry them out without fail.” With tears flowing down their cheeks, the generals agreed to abide by their king’s last wishes.

“My first desire is that”, said Alexander, “My physicians alone must carry my coffin.” After a pause, he continued, “Secondly, I desire that when my coffin is being carried to the grave, the path leading to the graveyard be strewn with gold, silver and precious stones which I have collected in my treasury”. The king felt exhausted after saying this. He took a minute’s rest and continued. My third and last wish is that both my hands be kept dangling out of my coffin”.

The people who had gathered there wondered at the king’s strange wishes. But no one dared bring the question to their lips. Alexander’s favorite general kissed his hand and pressed them to his heart. “O king, we assure you that all your wishes will be fulfilled. But tell us why do you make such strange wishes?” At this Alexander took a deep breath and said: “I would like the world to know of the three lessons I have just learnt.

I want my physicians to carry my coffin because people should realize that No doctor on this earth can really cure anybody. They are powerless and cannot save a person from the clutches of death. So let not people take life for granted.

The second wish of strewing gold, silver and other riches on the path to the graveyard is to tell people that Not even a fraction of gold will come with me. I spent all my life with the greed for power, earning riches but cannot take anything with me. Let people realize that it is a sheer waste of time to chase wealth.

And about my third wish of having my hands dangling out of the coffin, I wish my people to know that I came empty handed into this world and empty handed I go out of this world”. With these words, the king closed his eyes. Soon he let death conquer him and breathed his last.

The Old Professor

The first day of school our professor introduced himself and challenged us to get to know someone we didn’t already know. I stood up to look around when a gentle hand touched my shoulder. I turned around to find a wrinkled, little old lady beaming up at me with a smile that that lit up her entire being.

She said, “Hi, handsome. My name is Rose. I’m eighty-seven years old. Can I give you a hug?” I laughed and enthusiastically responded, “Of course you may!” and she gave me a giant squeeze.
“Why are you in college at such a young, innocent age?” I asked.
She jokingly replied, “I’m here to meet a rich husband, get married, have a couple of children, and then retire and travel.”
“No seriously,” I asked. I was curious what may have motivated her to be taking on this challenge at her age.
“I always dreamed of having a college education and now I’m getting one!” she told me.
After class we walked to the student union building and share a chocolate milkshake. We became instant friends. Every day for the next three months we would leave class together and talk nonstop. I was always mesmerized listening to this “time machine” as she shared her wisdom and experience with me.

Over the course of the year, Rose became a campus icon and she easily made friends wherever she went. She loved to dress up and she reveled in the attention bestowed upon her from the other students. She was living it up.
At the end of the semester we invited Rose to speak at our football banquet. I’ll never forget what she taught us. She was introduced and stepped up to the podium. As she began to deliver her prepared speech, she dropped her three by five cards on the floor. Frustrated and a little embarrassed she leaned into the microphone and simply said, “I’m sorry I’m so jittery. I gave up beer for Lent and this whiskey is killing me! I’ll never get my speech back in order so let me just tell you what I know.”

As we laughed she cleared her throat and began: “We do not stop playing because we are old; we grow old because we stop playing. There are only four secrets to staying young, being happy, and achieving success. “You have to laugh and find humor every day. You’ve got to have a dream. When you lose your dreams, you die. We have so many people walking around who are dean and don’t even know it!”
“There is a huge difference between growing older and growing up. If you are nineteen years old and lie in bed for one full year and don’t do one productive thing, you will turn twenty years old. If I am eighty-seven years old and stay in bed for a year and never do anything I will turn eighty-eight. Anybody can grow older. That doesn’t take any talent or ability. The idea is to grow up by always finding the opportunity in change.”
“Have no regrets. The elderly usually don’t have regrets for what we did, but rather for things we did not do. The only people who fear death are those with regrets.”

She concluded her speech by courageously singing The Rose. She challenged each of us to study the lyrics and live them out in our daily lives. At the years end Rose finished the college degree she had begun all those years ago.
One week after graduation Rose died peacefully in her sleep.
Over two thousand college students attended her funeral in tribute to the wonderful woman who taught by example that it’s never too late to be all you can possibly be.

Remember, GROWING OLDER IS MANDATORY, GROWING UP IS OPTIONAL.

Questions to Ask Yourself Everyday.

Today, after lunch I should have give a building character training to the junior employees at my company. I would like to share one of training material to all bloggers. Hopefully it can be useful.

Many times what people need is not a brilliant mind that speaks. But they only need a special heart that listens. Giving up is easy. Perhaps this is the reason why most people give up very soon. But when your dreams are far away and your life is full of obstacles, it really doesn’t matter what the challenge is. Your faith on yourself will get you through it. What you do everyday matters more than what you do once in a while.

Ask these questions everyday to find out your inner qualities and make yourself a better you. Because it’s much more valuable to criticize yourself than criticizing others. Because you gain nothing by criticizing their imperfections. Your life is what you make it. Every day is a new day to try again. So start asking yourself these questions everyday and discover the real YOU.

1. Am I Taking the Right Decision?

It‘s very important to take the right decision at the right time. But it is more important to understand the right time to take a decision and implement it. So it’s always a good idea to ask yourself if you are taking the right decision. Because your decision making abilities controls more than fifty percent of your success in life..
So whenever you make an important decision, at first ask yourself if it gets you closer to your goals or farther away. If the answer is closer, pull the trigger. If it’s not, make a different choice. Remember, conscious decision making is a critical step in making your dreams a reality.

2. What have I Learn Till Now?

Behind every negative thing, there are positive things to learn. You can learn something every day if you pay attention. Learn from every mistake and be the best you can be. Learn from your past to live in the present and create your future. Forget what hurt you. But never forget what it has taught you. Learn as much as you can. Because your world will be boring if you don’t learn anything.

Every mistake has something new to learn about. People who never made a mistake in life has never really tried to something new. So they don’t get the opportunity to learn from their mistakes. Remember we can never go back and change what has already been said or done. But we can always learn the lesson to make things better next time.

3. What are My Fears?

Courage is not the absence of fear. But it is the judgment that something else is more important than fear. Remember, fear is the ultimate self-imposed illusion. Nothing in life is to be afraid of, but to be understood. If you don’t understand the reason of your fear, you can never understand how to get rid of it.

Don’t let your fear control your life. Look deep into yourself to discover the reasons of your fear. The only difference between your fear and your excitement is your attitude about it. It’s better to face danger once than to always be in fear. Miracles happen when you learn to give more energy to your dreams than to your fears .

 4. Where can I Find Inspiration?

Your best inspiration is YOU. Make yourself someone you will be proud of. The darkest night is often the bridge to the brightest tomorrows. Ask yourself what inspires you and learn from it. Perhaps the best question you can ask yourself is “What is the most valuable use of my time, right now?”

The way you choose to live your life is what decides how your life will be. Stop talking about your problems and start talking about your joys. Then you will have a more entertaining and interesting life. You don’t have to better than everybody else. You should just try to be better than you ever thought you could be.

5. How can I Improve Myself?

There is no challenge more challenging than a challenge to improve yourself. You can improve yourself everyday of your life. Your future depends on what you do today. Utilize your time in the most valuable way. Improve yourself and be the best person you can be. Don’t let your future become a constant battle.

Realize your full potential by focusing on improving yourself. Take care of your mind and the way it plays with you. Never get tired of doing little things for yourself. Because sometimes those little things occupy the biggest part of your life.

6, What Makes Me Proud?

Everyone who got where he is today had to begin where he was. So don’t let your life discourage you. Be proud of who you are and what you are today. This is only what you have got and this is only what you can improve. Respect yourself enough to know you deserve the very best. Because when you love yourself, things fall easily into place.

Not everyone you love is going to love you back. So it’s much better to love yourself. You should be yourself. Because nobody else is better qualified. You are your best inspiration and you are the only person who has the best capability to make yourself feel proud.

Nobody is going to love you, if you don’t love yourself. Don’t try to change yourself to impress others. Because you never know who will love you for who you are. Let the world know you as you are, not as you think you should be. Be proud of yourself and what you have every day.

7. What is My Greatest Challenge?

Challenges are what make your life more interesting. Without any challenge, your life will be boring. The greatest challenge in life is discovering who you are. Asking this question everyday will make you realize how interesting your life is and you have the ability to make it more interesting.

Every challenge makes you stronger. Every challenge makes you realize your inner strength. You need to realize that you have the power to change your life. You can do it by finding out your passion and discovering your greatest challenge in life.

Your greatest challenge in life is your goal. Don’t let your life change your goals. But change your life by achieving your goals. If you want to live a happy and interesting life, you must tie it to a goal. Whatever your goal, you can get there if you’re willing to work.
