We are One

We are One - Karina's thought

One of the natural phenomenons that make me amazed is the rainbow. After the heavy rain this noon, I saw the rainbow and it gave me an idea to write something. Rainbow is a blend of colors that occur due to dispersion of light when the sun penetrates rain droplets in the air, thus making the light breaks down into the colors of the spectrum. I am thinking what if it’s a blend of rainbow colors separated each other. I do believe that the beauty of the rainbow will be much reduced. The series of color looks so beautiful when it appeared simultaneously in a unity. My mind drifted away to the Christian living and the church. There are many church denominations in this world, each of which has different ordinances that may influenced by their culture, they may have different doctrines, teaching methods, or they may have different vision and mission. I analogize the denominations as the colors in the rainbow and thinking how beautiful if those Christians who have different denomination could be united.
I am reminded of the Jesus’ prayer in Gethsemane a few moments before he was arrested.

“My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, (John 17:20)

Then let’s see the next. When I ponder the next verses, there is an important message through Jesus’ prayer. What did Jesus ask to God? He did not ask God to always ensure that the believers live without suffering, always happy, never got sick or hurt both physically and mentally. But He pray,

That all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one—I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me. (John 17:21-23)

I imagine how beautiful if the diversity of church denominations with their difference could be united. United not only in the form of a specific organization or community, but rather the spiritual unity which is based on life in Christ, to know and experience the Father’s love and the fellowship of Christ. Accept, believe and obedience to the truth of the God’s word (John 17:6-8) parting with the Worldliness (John 17:14-16); sanctification in truth (John 17:17-19), desire to bring salvation to the lost (John 17:21-23).

Sadly, I still found some cases there are several denominations underestimate each other. They argued that their church is the truest church and blessed by God. They are also assuming that their worship ordinance is the most appropriate with God’s will and word. Even worse, there is a presumption that their church is the most blessed church because they have a very large number of congregations. They are forgetting that the Lord Jesus comes not only in thousands of congregations, but with the slightest amount gather in prayer, the Lord Jesus comes among them. As written in Matthew 18:20: “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”

In His prayer, Jesus wants us to be united, just as the Father is in Jesus and Jesus in the Father, so are we the believers are in this unity with very obvious purpose. He wants the world knows and believe that Father in Heaven sent Him to redeem the sinner through the death on the Cross, and also the world knows that God loves the world as God loves Him. The problem is how the world can believe in Christ and accept Him as the only Savior who redeemed the sinner if we are the believers instead become a stumbling block to the unbeliever with our behavior which still suspicious of each other, judging, look down on one and another and assume that we are the truest than the other. The God’s truth will be seen from how we live our life, and by our attitudes and reaction in life. If we set a good example, then people will be able to see the truth of the God’s Kingdom.

It would be wonderful if all the churches with their congregations based not on differences but on similarities, that all are one in Christ and is part of the body of Christ. Where there is no self-interest or seeking a vain compliment, that there is only one common goal to glorify God, radiate God’s love and brings joy to everyone. As Paul advising the Philippians,

Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves. (Philippians 2:1-3)

Furthermore, there is no assumption that is the truest, the most important and the best. We are the one body, as Paul said in Corinthians, Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ.(1Corinthians 12:12) and resumed again in the following verses, The eye cannot say to the hand, “I don’t need you!” And the head cannot say to the feet, “I don’t need you!” On the contrary, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable (1 Corinthians 12:21-22) each of us as a part of the body of Christ has a gift respectively, which if combined would be able to be a tremendous power to show the greatness, the glory and the love of God. We should be more intact in the sameness, do not instead enlarge the discrepancy.

Rainbow is a sign of God’s covenant with us. (Genesis 9:13) Rainbow is God’s promise that there will be no more floodwater. (Genesis 9:15). In other words, the rainbow is a sign that there is salvation offered by God to the mankind. How beautiful if we are all united like a beautiful rainbow which has different colors but come together to form beautiful strands in the sky and together we proclaim God’s salvation to those who have not been saved so that they will know and believe that there is a joy, peace, love and beautiful life in God. Let’s unite together, hand in hand appreciating each other, accept each difference, support each other, encourage each other, and help each other regardless of denominational backgrounds where we grow. So the world will see a beautiful rainbow of God who always spreading God’s love to everyone. Let us be one, as Christ is in of God, of God in Christ, where we are therein. Are we willing?
My dear friends, I will end this post with a poem that I have ever written to my beloved blog friend and sister in Christ, Sue Nash. Here it is:

WE ARE ONE
We are apart by thousand miles of distance; we are apart by tunnel of time. We are apart by seasons. We are apart by culture diversity.

But,
We break barriers that divide us along lines of caste, class, gender, race, nation, denomination and age.

We are Community of Christ and we are walking the path together as the one body, called as brother and sister in Christ

We yearn to be united and feel connected by an unbreakable bond, to find a true home.
We also know that we are not alone in Christ

We walk and work together with all those who proclaim the values of Christ.

We are longs to blessed and be blessing, spreading God’s love, joyful and peace to others

We are one in our belief in the worth of every person and the value of every soul in God’s sight

We are called to be a servant of the Lord through the gifts that God given to us

We are one in knowing that we must do, and not only think.

We are one in generosity. We have many ways of giving.

We avoid debates for fear that in winning the argument we will lose each other

We learn to appreciate each other, encourage each other, and strengthen each other through our adversity

We are one, called to tell others about the gospel.

We sing Him. We pray Him. Live, seek, and think Him.

We lift on high the name: Christ Jesus. We testify of Christ Jesus.

We have faith in him. He makes us one.

We are one in Christ

So in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. Romans 12:5

Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” – John 13:34-35

Thank you very much to Sister in Christ Nancy for the additional Bible verses.

I Love You, Dad.

Daddy quote

When my father gave a gratitude speech in his birthday celebration few days ago, there is one his utterance that makes me thrilled. His utterance was taken from unknown quote about children which describe how precious a child for the parents. He said: “Many people said that I was a rich man. No! They are wrong! I never felt like that. But actually, I am truly feel as a rich man when my single daughter run into me, needs my hugs and in that time my hands are empty. I am rich because I have so precious treasure in my life and there is nothing in this world can replace her. So do not ever feel annoyed if our children come to us even though they only need a warm embrace from us. Always spend time for them even though we’re busy. As Jesus our Lord said: “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.” (Matthew 19:14)

Daddy, you know how much I love you as you love me so much. Thank you so much, Dad.

A truly rich man is one whose children run into his arms

when his hands are empty

Respect your Husband

This afternoon I and my fiancé returned following the second session of premarital counseling and once again as a couple who will get married we got a wonderful blessing from God. We have learned more about Christian Marriage. I am trying to summarized the counseling materials and very pleased to share to all of you..

Today’s topic focused more directly to womenas a wife. The emphasis is on how to respect my husband. Many marriages begin well and end poorly because men and women are not properly trained in how to treat one another. God has specific roles for the husband and the wife and when we stay within those roles we have happy marriages and good family lives. Here are some important things that must be done by a wife.

“And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him”. (Genesis 2:18)

Treatandrespect himas a leader

God gave you your husband as the leader in your home. This means that he is not only the Spiritual leader; he is the one who make decisions.  Women are ill-equipped to make large decisions; we are far too emotional for that big responsibility. Your part in the decision process could be to help him be the leader by providing him with information that will aid in decision-making. And remember that just because you provided information, this does not mean that your husband will consider that information.  He chooses what to use in the decision process; a wise husband will ask for his wife’s advice.  When he chooses not to consider your information and/or advice let him take responsibility for the decision, be it good or bad.  Never, ever say “I told you so” or words to that effect when a decision has gone bad.  When he makes good decisions thank him for taking that burden. Remember to avoid getting leadership and advice from other males in your life such as your pastor, friend or even your brother. Take a look at what the Bible says about your husband’s role as leader and head of the wife:

Ephesians 5:22-24 Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit in everything to their husbands.

Respect His Maleness

Accept the fact that God made you the weaker vessel. This is one of those things that have taken me many years to do.  I am a strong willed woman and many times I have tried to do things that I needed not to do. I now am thankful that my husband carries the heavy packages and opens the doors for me. He is being what God has made him to be, my protector – not only for safely sake but for my own health and well-being. You were created for him, as his helper. Let your husband be the strong one and when he is, praise him for it and thank God for him. Let him open that pickle jar; even if you loosened it for him. Here are some Bible verses for this hint:

1 Peter 3:7 Likewise, husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way, showing honor to the woman as the weaker vessel, since they are heirs with you of the grace of life, so that your prayers may not be hindered.

1 Corinthians 11:9 Neither was man created for woman, but woman for man.

Respect as an Attitude

There are times when the husband is not respectful to the wife. This does not give you license to be disrespectful. You cannot control his actions, but you can control your reactions. You see, respect is not only seen in your actions (as a verb) but it is also seen in your attitude (as a noun). When you show an attitude of respect toward your husband he will think twice about the way that he is treating you. Love him, even when he is unlovely. Serve him, even when he seems not to appreciate your service. Listen to him, even when you may not understand what he is talking about. Be attentive to his physical needs, even when you are tired.  God will bless you and your marriage when you remember to have a respectful attitude.  Bible guidelines for this are:

Romans 12:21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Philippians 2:3-4 (KJV) Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.

Respect His Reputation

Don’t air your dirty laundry. When you are in the company of others you should never be saying things that tear your husband down. Instead you should be saying only good about him. Brag on him! Be faithful to him in thought, word and deed. This includes what you say and do in front of the children. Teach them to respect their Daddy, he is their protector too and they should see him as a hero. The Bible is loaded with this concept, here are a few verses:

Proverbs 12:7 An excellent wife is the crown of her husband, but she who brings shame is like rottenness in his bones.

Proverbs 31:11-12 The heart of her husband trusts in her, and he will have no lack of gain. She does him good, and not harm, all the days of her life.

Romans 14:19 Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another.

Hebrews 13:4 Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous.

Respect His Provision

This is a Biblical principle that has been overlooked in our modern world.  In the day of the two-income family, we have come to depend upon the wife’s income to provide for the needs of the family. This ought not to be. Don’t misunderstand; I realize that sometimes it is necessary for a woman to work outside of the home, in the case where the husband is physically unable.  However, when your husband is able to provide for the family – let him do it! Here is the Biblical standard on the husband as the provider:

Genesis 3:17-20 And to Adam he said,”Because you have listened to the voice of your wife and have eaten of the tree of which I commanded you, ’You shall not eat of it,’ cursed is the ground because of you; in pain you shall eat of it all the days of your life; thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you; and you shall eat the plants of the field. By the sweat of your face you shall eat bread, till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for you are dust, and to dust you shall return.”

Respect His Home

Make your house a home, no matter what the living circumstance. Make it comfortable and clean. Make the bed. Clean up the dirty dishes. Keep up with the laundry. Your husband works hard and he deserves a cozy home after a hard day. Get up before your husband and the children – set the tone for the day.  When you have things in order your day will run smoother for your entire household. Teach the children to clean up after themselves and how to do daily and weekly chores. All this should be done without grumbling or complaining.

Titus 2:4-5 and so train the young women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled.

Philippians 2:14 Do all things without grumbling or questioning

The Counseling today concludes with a question: are you ready to become a good Christian wife?

This material counseling was taken from an article “How to respect your husband “Written by Pamela Rose Williams

Fulfilling a Promise

Ever since the beginning The girl’s family member disagree her relationship with the boy. Saying that because of family background, if she insist of being together with the boy, she’ll suffer for her whole lifetime.

Because of the pressure applied by family members, she frequently quarrel with him. She open the card sadly, but she found her name on the card.

The moment she want to ask her best friend, the boy appear in front of her. With an unfamiliar sign language, he told her ”I spent more than a year’s time, to force myself to learn sign language, in order to tell you, I have not forgot our promise, give me an opportunity, let me be your voice. I love you.”

Looking at the slow sign language by the boy, and the engagement ring she gave back to him, She finally smiled.

Do not be a coward and run away whenever there is a problem, remember that every problem has a solution, never ever break someone’s heart, you may not know when it will happen to you.

Pair of wrinkled and Bruises Hand

One young academically excellent person went to apply for a managerial position in a big company. He passed the first interview; the director did the last interview. The director discovered from the CV that the youth’s academic achievements were excellent all the way, from the secondary school until the postgraduate research, never had a year when he did not score.

The director asked, “Did you obtain any scholarships in school?”

The youth answered, “None.”

The director asked, “Was it your father who paid for your school fees?”

The youth answered, “My father passed away when I was one year old, it was my mother who paid for my school fees.”

The director asked, “Where did your mother work?”

The youth answered, “My mother worked as laundry woman.”

The director requested the youth to show his hands. The youth showed a pair of hands that were smooth and perfect.

The director asked, “Have you ever helped your mother wash the clothes before?”

The youth answered, “Never, my mother always wanted me to study and read more books. Furthermore, my mother can wash clothes faster than me.”

The director said, “I have a request. When you go back today, go and clean your mother’s hands, and then see me tomorrow morning.”

The youth felt that his chance of landing the job was high. When he went back, he happily requested his mother to let him clean her hands. His mother felt strange. Happy but with mixed feelings, she showed her hands to the young man.

The youth cleaned his mother’s hands slowly. His tear fell as he did that. It was the first time he noticed that his mother’s hands were so wrinkled, and there were so many bruises in her hands. Some bruises were so painful that his mother shivered when they were cleaned with water.

This was the first time the youth realized that it was this pair of hands that washed the clothes everyday to enable him to pay the school fee. The bruises in the mother’s hands were the price that the mother had to pay for his graduation, academic excellence and his future.

After finishing the cleaning of his mother’s hands, the youth quietly washed all the remaining clothes for his mother.

That night, mother and son talked for a very long time.

Next morning, the youth went to the director’s office.

The Director noticed the tears in the youth’s eyes, asked: “Can you tell me what have you done and learned yesterday in your house?”

The youth answered, “I cleaned my mother’s hands and also finished cleaning all the remaining clothes.”

The Director asked, “Please tell me your feelings.”

The youth said:

  1. I know now what appreciation is. Without my mother, there would not have been the successful me today.
  2. By working together and helping my mother, only now I realize how difficult and tough it is to get something done.
  3. I have come to appreciate the importance and value of family relationships.

The director said, “This is what I am looking for to be my manager. I want to recruit a person who can appreciate the help of others, a person who knows the sufferings of others to get things done, and a person who would not put money as his only goal in life. You are hired.”

Later on, this young person worked very hard and received the respect of his subordinates. Every employee worked diligently and as a team. The company’s performance improved tremendously.

The wooden bowl

wooden_bowl_400

A frail old man went to live with his son, daughter-in-law, and a four-year old grandson. The old man’s hands trembled, his eyesight was blurred, and his step faltered.

The family ate together nightly at the dinner table. But the elderly grandfather’s shaky hands and failing sight made eating rather difficult. Peas rolled off his spoon onto the floor. When he grasped the glass often milk spilled on the tablecloth.

The son and daughter-in-law became irritated with the mess. “We must do something about grandfather,” said the son. I’ve had enough of his spilled milk, noisy eating, and food on the floor. So the husband and wife set a small table in the corner. There, grandfather ate alone while the rest of the family enjoyed dinner at the dinner table. Since grandfather had broken a dish or two, his food was served in a wooden bowl. Sometimes when the family glanced in grandfather’s direction, he had a tear in his eye as he ate alone. Still, the only words the couple had for him were sharp admonitions when he dropped a fork or spilled food. The four-year-old watched it all in silence.

One evening before supper, the father noticed his son playing with wood scraps on the floor. He asked the child sweetly, “What are you making?” Just as sweetly, the boy responded, “Oh, I am making the bowl for you and mama to eat.” The four-year-old smiled and went back to work. The words so struck the parents that they were speechless. Then tears started to stream down their cheeks. Though no word was spoken, both knew what must be done. That evening the husband took grandfather’s hand and gently led him back to the family table. For the remainder of his days he ate every meal with the family. And for some reason, neither husband nor wife seemed to care any longer when a fork was dropped, milk spilled, or the tablecloth soiled.

Children are remarkably perceptive. Their eyes ever observe, their ears ever listen, and their minds ever process the messages they absorb. If they see us patiently provide a happy home atmosphere for family members, they will imitate that attitude for the rest of their lives. The wise parent realizes that every day that building blocks are being laid for the child’s future. Let us all be wise builders and role models. Take care of yourself, and those you love, … today, and every day!

My Sweet little Angel

My wife called, ‘How long will you be with that newspaper? Will you come here and make your darling daughter eat her food?’ I tossed the paper away and rushed to the scene. My only daughter Sindu looked frightened.

Tears were welling up in her eyes. In front of her was a bowl filled to its brim with Curd Rice. Sindu is a nice child, quite intelligent for her age.She has just turned eight. She particularly detested Curd Rice. My mother and my wife are orthodox, and believe firmly in the ‘cooling effects’ of Curd Rice!
I cleared my throat, and picked up the bowl. ‘Sindu, darling, why don’t you take a few mouthful of this Curd Rice?Just for Dad’s sake, dear.
Sindu softened a bit, and wiped her tears with the back of her hands. ‘OK, Dad. I will eat – not just a few
mouthfuls, but the whole lot of this. But, you should…’ Sindu hesitated. ‘Dad, if I eat this entire curd Rice, will you give me whatever I ask for?’………..Oh sure, darling’….’Promise?’……………..
‘Promise’. I covered the pink soft hand extended by my daughter with mine, and clinch the deal.
‘Ask Mom also to give a similar promise’, my daughter insisted.
My wife put her hand on Sindu’s, muttering ‘Promise’.
Now I became a bit anxious. ‘Sindu dear, you shouldn’t insist on getting a computer or any such expensive items.Dad does not have that kind of money right now. OK?’
‘No, Dad. I do not want anything expensive’.Slowly and painfully, she finished eating the whole quantity.
I was silently angry with my wife and my mother for forcing my child eat something that she detested.
After the ordeal was through, Sindu came to me with her eyes wide with expectation. All our attention was on her………….’Dad, I want to have my head shaved off, this Sunday!’ was her demand.
‘Atrocious!’ shouted my wife, ‘A girl child having her head shaved off? Impossible!’ ‘Never in our family!’ my mother rasp. ‘She has been watching too much of television. Our culture is getting totally spoiled with these TV programs!’
Sindu darling, why don’t you ask for something else? We will be sad seeing you with a clean-shaven head.’
‘No, Dad. I do not want anything else’, Sindu said with finality.
‘Please, Sindu, why don’t you try to understand our feelings?’ I tried to plead with her.
‘Dad, you saw how difficult it was for me to eat that Curd Rice’. Sindu was in tears. ‘And you promised to grant me whatever I ask for. Now, you are going back on your words. Was it not you who told me the story of King Harishchandra, and its moral that we should honor our promises no matter what?’
It was time for me to call the shots. ‘Our promise must be kept.’
‘Are you out your mind?’ chorused my mother and wife.
‘No. If we go back on our promises, she will never learn to honor her own. Sindu, your wish will be fulfilled.’
With her head clean-shaven, Sindu had a round-face, and her eyes looked big and beautiful.
On Monday morning, I dropped her at her school. It was a sight to watch my hairless Sindu walking towards her classroom. She turned around and waved. I waved back with a smile.
Just then, a boy alighted from a car, and shouted, ‘Sinduja, please wait for me!’
What struck me was the hairless head of that boy. ‘May be, that is the in-stuff’, I thought.
‘Sir, your daughter Sinduja is great indeed!’ Without introducing herself, a lady got out of the car, and continued,’ That boy who is walking along with your daughter is my son Harish. He is suffering from… … leukemia.’ She paused to muffle her sobs. Harish could not attend the school for the whole of the last month. He lost all his hair due to the side effects of the chemotherapy. He refused to come back to school fearing the unintentional but cruel teasing of the schoolmates’Sinduja visited him last week, and promised him that she will take care of the teasing issue.
But, I never imagined she would sacrifice her lovely hair for the sake of my son!
Sir, you and your wife are blessed to have such a noble soul as your daughter.’
I stood transfix. And then, I wept. ‘My little Angel, you are teaching me how self-less real love is!’
*The happiest people on this planet are not those who live on their own terms but are those who change their terms for the ones whom they love..*
