The Story of Cactus Flower

Cactus Flower - Karina's Thought

And God saw everything that he had made, and, behold, it was very good……… Genesis 1-31

A cactus stood all alone in the desert, wondering why it was stuck in the middle of nowhere. “I do nothing but stand here all day,” it sighed. “What use am I? I’m the ugliest plant in the desert. My spines are thick and prickly, my leaves are rubbery and tough, and my skin is thick and bumpy. I can’t offer shade or juicy fruit to any passing traveler. I don’t see that I’m any use at all.” All it did was stand in the sun day after day, growing taller and fatter.

Its spines grew longer and its leaves tougher and it swelled here and there until it was lumpy and lopsided all over. It truly was strange- looking. “I wish I could do something useful,” it sighed. By day, hawks circled high overhead. “What can I do with my life?” the cactus called. Whether they heard or not, the hawks sailed away. At night the moon floated into the sky and cast its pale glow on the desert floor. “What good can I do with my life?” the cactus called.

The moon only stared coldly as it mounted its course. A lizard crawled by, leaving a little trail in the sand with its tail. “What worthy deed can I do?” the cactus called. “You?” the lizard laughed, pausing a moment. “Worthy deed? Why, you can’t do anything! The hawks circle way overhead, tracing delicate patterns for us all to admire.

The moon hangs high like a lantern at night, so we can see our ways home to our loved ones. Even I, the lowly lizard, have something to do. I decorate the sands with these beautiful brushstrokes as I pull my tail along. By you? You do nothing but get uglier every day.” And so it went on, year after year.

At last the cactus grew old, and it knew its time was short. “Oh, Lord,” it cried out, “I’ve wondered so long, and I’ve tried so hard. Forgive me if I’ve failed to find something worthy to do. I fear that now it’s too late.”

But just then the cactus felt a strange stirring and unfolding, and it knew a surge of joy that erased all despair. At its very tip, like a sudden crown, a glorious flower suddenly opened in bloom. Never had the desert known such a blossom. Its fragrance perfumed the air far and wide and brought happiness to all passing by. The butterflies paused to admire its beauty, and that night even the moon smiled when it rose to find such a treasure. The cactus heard a voice. “You have waited long,” the Lord said. “The heart that seeks to do well reflects My glory, and will always bring something worthwhile to the world, something in which all can rejoice – even if for only a moment.”

In this life we often feel worthless.  Feel there is nothing useful to do. But this story tells us, God already has a plan in our life and all of God’s creation is a feasible and worthwhile. Sometimes we think like that cactus. But if we truly believe that God already had a plan for our lives, although initially seems useless In accordance with God’s time everything will look worthwhile. There is nothing useless and worthless in GOD.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28

“Do You Truly LOVE ME?”

One day, I woke early in the morning to watch the sunrise. Ah, the beauty of God’s creation is beyond description. As I watched, I praised God for His beautiful work.  As I sat there, I felt the Lord’s presence with me.

He asked me, “Do you love me?”

I answered, “Of course, God! You are my Lord and Savior!”

Then He asked, “If you were physically handicapped, would you still love Me?”

I was perplexed. I looked down upon my arms, legs, and the rest of my body and wondered how many things I wouldn’t be able to do, the things that I took for granted.

And I answered, “It would be tough Lord, but I would still love You.”

Then the Lord said, “If you were blind, would you still love my creation?”

How could I love something without being able to see it? Then I thought of all the blind people in the world and how many of them still loved God and His creation.

So I answered, “It’s hard to think of it, but I would still love You.”

The Lord then asked me, “If you were deaf, would you still listen to My Word?”

How could I listen to anything being deaf? Then I understood. Listening to God’s Word is not merely using our ears, but our hearts.

I answered, “It would be tough, but I would still listen to Your Word.”

The Lord then asked, “If you were mute, would you still praise My Name?”

How could I praise without a voice? Then it occurred to me: God wants us to sing from our very heart and soul. It never matters what we sound like. And praising God is not always with a song, but when we are persecuted, we give God praise with our words of thanks.

So I answered, “Though I could not physically sing, I would still praise Your Name.”

And the Lord asked, “Do you really love Me?”

With courage and a strong conviction, I answered boldly, “Yes Lord! I love You because You are the one and true God!” I thought I had answered well, but . . .

God asked, “Then why do you sin?”

I answered, “Because I am only human. I am not perfect.”

“Then why in times of peace do you stray the furthest? Why only in times of trouble do you pray the earnest?”

No answers. Only tears.

The Lord continued: “Why only sing at fellowships and retreats? Why seek Me only in times of worship? Why ask things so selfishly? Why ask things so unfaithfully?”

The tears continued to roll down my cheeks.

“Why are you ashamed of Me? Why are you not spreading the Good News? Why in times of persecution, you cry to others when I offer My shoulder to cry on? Why make excuses when I give you opportunities to serve in My Name?”

I tried to answer, but there was no answer to give.

“You are blessed with life. I made you not to throw this gift away. I have blessed you with talents to serve Me, but you continue to turn away. I have revealed My Word to you, but you do not gain in knowledge. I have spoken to you, but your ears were closed. I have shown My blessings to you, but your eyes were turned away. I have sent you servants, but you sat idlely by as they were pushed away. I have heard your prayers and I have answered them all.”

“DO YOU TRULY LOVE ME?”

I could not answer. How could I? I was embarrassed beyond belief. I had no excuse. What could I say to this?  When my heart had cried out and the tears had flowed, I said, “Please forgive me Lord. I am unworthy to be Your child.”  The Lord answered, “That is My Grace, My child.”

I asked, “Then why do you continue to forgive me? Why do you love me so?”

The Lord answered, “Because you are My creation. You are My child. I will never abandon you. When you cry, I will have compassion and cry with you. When you shout with joy, I will laugh with you. When you are down, I will encourage you. When you fall, I will raise you up. When you are tired, I will carry you. I will be with you till the end of days, and I will love you forever.”

Never had I cried so hard before. How could I have been so cold? How could I have hurt God as I had done? I asked God, “How much do You love me?”

The Lord stretched out His arms, and I saw His nail-pierced hands. I bowed down at the feet of Christ, my Savior. And for the first time, I truly prayed.

In YOU

In You

In You,

My eyes opens to see how beautiful Your creation

My ears opens to hear how great and wonderful Your words

My heart opens to know how deep is Your love to me

My mind opens to understand how incredible Your plans upon me.

My mouth opens to proclaimed how powerful You are

In You,

I am strong and always strengthened, bold to deal with many problems

Tears no more within suffering, weakness no more within temptation

Shining light within the darkness, stray I am not. Hopeless I am not within love and mercy

Faithless no more within Your Faithfulness, doubt no more within Your mightiness

Only Joys, peace, blessing, divine abundance, and serenity upon me

In You, I trust, I am strong in the strength of You.

All Things Have Become New

Morning lightToday when I came to the office, accidentally I found stacks of old newspapers at the lobby of my room. Soon, I call my secretary and asked to her why it was put here. She said that the piles of newsprint will be taken by a craftsman periodically. I am a bit puzzled. “What for?” I asked.

My secretary smiled and said: “Ma’am, could you see the bird statue at the corner? “ My eyes lead to a corner of the room. A beautiful white dove. “What the correlation with newsprint?” I asked again while walked to the corner of the room and saw the statue closer. “This statue was created by Mr.Lam (The craftsman) from the paper pulp. He collects our old newsprint to be recycled and processed into handicrafts items.” She answered. Oh…! I see. I understand!

Everyone in this world always needs newspaper every day. Every one of us always needs to know the latest news about many topics. Many people use a Newspaper for their breakfast friend, included me. But my dear friends did you ever thinking that most of us need the newspapers just for one day only. What will be happened with it tomorrow? Tomorrow we will read the new one and so on. Means, we are no longer need the yesterday newspaper. After such a long, it will no longer useful. We are no longer calls it newspaper but newsprint, just stacked; it will be scraps, discarded or even burned.

My friends, maybe this time there are many people around us like newsprint. They feel worthless, being alienated and wasted. Living full of sins, even worse, they think their life was over. Actually, as a God believer, our life is not like the old newsprint, because our God never let us to be a useless thing, He always pick up and recycles our life as long as we  want to confess our sins and ask for forgiveness, God will create us into a new person that has a better quality of life.

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.(2 Corinthians 5:17)

Back to the statue of a dove, it was created from something useless.  From the things that is no longer used. But through the hands of the craftsman, newsprint is processed such a way as to be a beautiful thing and useful. So it is with our lives. God never let us to become worthless. Our Father in Heaven is the greatest craftsman. He always creates us to being new better person. Whether we are believed that God always take care of us and did we believe that God was creating us perfectly? Our lives not like the old useless newsprint. If we like newsprint, He will pick up and recycles our life to become a new better one.

If our life was so messed up, still dabbling in sins, worthless, and meaningless, let’s pray to our beloved God. Ask him to recycles our life become a better life with His mercies that always new every morning.

“This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope. It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.” Lamentation 3:21-23
