The Desert Process

THE DESERT PROCESS - Karina's Thought

I am surely believed that there is no one in this world wants live in misery. There is no one in this world, no matter what their religion deliberately pray to God so their live full with suffering.  We always expect as could as possible our live will free of problems that could make us suffered.  It is very reasonable. But we also have to know that problems and trials are a part of our lives. There is a season our lives will a lot of hard problems and trials.  The question is why should there be a problem in our lives? Why our lives aren’t free from problems so we could really enjoy the life? My dear friends, in my personal lives I look that the problems have important meaning. I mean is, I give a simple illustration like this, if we never sick we will have tendency to not appreciate the importance of maintaining a good health. Precisely because we know that get sick is unpleasant thing then we will know how to thankful and appreciate when we are in healthy condition. We will never appreciate a success if we never fail. Through failures we will know how beautiful a success. Another illustration,  there is nothing special when we drink a water every day but water will be so special and precious if we found the water and drink it when we are really thirsty. We would know how nice “a sip of water in the oasis” when are already feel how painful a sunburn in the desert.

My beloved readers, I analogize the desert, a very unpleasant place as hard season in our lives which a lot of problems, trials, and tribulations and as a place to test us. In my personal lives, I look and feel that there is a time God allows His children get into “the desert” with the excruciating sand and painful sunburn. Being in the desert requires a hard work and more struggles. We are confronted by the challenge, a difficult situation, or even we have to face a failure. A  Situations where we will know that   human power, wealth, and intelligence are no longer have a meaning. During that time we should begin to aware that the only ways to survive in entirely rely on the Lord. There are so many great bible figures that had experienced times in the desert before they were incredibly used by God. Joseph, Abraham, Moses, Daniel, David, Paul, and other Jesus’ disciples, even Jesus Himself had to experience a hard time in the wilderness for a process.

Immediately the Spirit drove Him into the wilderness. (Mark 1:12)

The Israelites also had to pass through the desert for 40 years before they entered to the promise land.

Perhaps there are question arise in our minds, actually what for God allows His children get into “the desert” What is His purpose? Does God wants torture His children? Of course not! Actually God allows us get into the desert in order that we don’t become arrogant, He doesn’t want us have a wrong heart attitude, He wants us not lulled, spoiled and weak. When God permits us have a hard time with so many big problems, we forged to have strong spiritual muscles and learn to cling to God, learn and realize that every greatness we have is nothing, and later when we get out from the desert we will more able to appreciate life and the owner of this lives. God told:

And you shall remember that the Lord your God led you all the way these forty years in the wilderness, to humble you and test you, to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep His commandments or not. So He humbled you, allowed you to hunger, and fed you with manna which you did not know nor did your fathers know, that He might make you know that man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord. (Deuteronomy 8:2-3)

Not only allow us to get into the desert, there is a time God chose to keep silent when we are in the hard times. Why God keep silent? I remembered Rick Warren has said: “…If God is silent in your life right now; it’s a test of faith” Once again when God chose to keep silent doesn’t  mean He intends to let us to suffer or doesn’t  care about all our problems but He wants our faith grows significantly through a test. Without passing through the test in” the desert” we will become a weak Christians, easily to be arrogant, easily seduced by the world temptation and become a spoiled person because we would never know what the suffering is. It is important to us to be tested and trained to have a firm faith and really know that relying on God in every step of our lives is the very best way to passing through the experience in the desert. We will succeed or not will depend on how we behave. Do we remain steadfast or we even become fainthearted and our strength become small and weak.

If you faint in the day of adversity, your strength is small. (Proverb 24:10)

My beloved friends, maybe this time there are people around us that we love currently in “The desert” facing very hard tests, or maybe even ourselves also have the same situation. I really know that undergoing the test in” the desert” is not easy, very unpleasant, and it might be very painful. But this evening let me tell you one important thing; Even though God allows us to be in the desert to experience many of hard tests, please remember that we will never be left by God to face all of it alone. He promised that although in the hardest times He will keep up us as He kept His own eyes; He’ll always with us and will not forsake us.

“He found him in a desert land and in the wasteland, a howling wilderness; He encircled him, He instructed him, He kept him as the apple of His eye.” (Deuteronomy 32:10)

And the LORD, He is the One who goes before you. He will be with you, He will not leave you nor forsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed.” (Deuteronomy 31: 8)

We also will always be surrounded and ministered by angels like when Jesus was tempted by Satan in the wild beasts.

And He was there in the wilderness forty days, tempted by Satan, and was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered to Him. (Mark 1:13)

Although God as if silent but actually he will never careless and He remain watching over us, He will never slumber and the God’s angel will encamp around us as Psalmist said:

Behold, He who keeps Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. (Psalm 121:4)

The angel of the Lord encamps all around those who fear Him, and delivers them.( Psalm 34:7)

Testing process in the desert also will drain our energy and will make us weak and fall but God will uphold us with His hand.

Though he falls, he shall not be utterly cast down; For the Lord upholds him with His hand. (Psalm 37:24)

And eventually, we will end the journey of “The desert test” beautifully as James reminds us:

Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him. (James 1:12)

Therefore this evening allow me to encourage all of us to don’t give up and don’t despair. Being in “The desert” is a process of spiritual maturation, make us strong and have unwavering faith. Any such of hard problems and trials may come to us but we have to remember and believe that:

No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it. (1 Corinthians 10:13)

Let’s continue to rely on the power of God in facing of the huge problems; do not rely on our own strengths, keep maintain our faith so we will end the good fight and finished the race as Paul said:

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. (2 Timothy 4:7) Amen

Going through our own deserts can make us like little flowers that spring up suddenly in the desert-signs of hope. Elouise

  1. Wonderful inspirational post to remind us to keep the faith Karan. I like your choice of a desert picture for your post. It is a good reminder of how our faith can seem like a desert at times when we are under stress. We must constantly receive reminders to keep our faith from turning into a desert. Just like a car needs gas to keep on moving, we need inspiration to keep our faith in motion and move us past so many obstacles we encounter to deplete our faith during our lifetimes.

Thank you for reminding me about keeping the faith. Hope all is going well for you and your family, friends, business, and community. The more we gas up our faith, the more gas we will have in store when we encounter driving through a desert.

    Regards and goodwill blogging.

    • Dear brother in Christ, Rudy.
You are very welcome, brother 🙂 I thank you for great insight to ponder from you. I love and do agree with your statement : the more we gas up our faith, the more gas we will have in store to encounter driving through a desert. Thank you. I hope and pray you and your family are going well too:) have a blessed weekend, brother.

  2. Dear Karina,
Thanks for your thought-provoking post. Desert and wilderness experiences can blossom like roses–not right away, but when God gives the signal. I think they can also make us softer toward other people who are going through hard times. Sometimes people think badly about others who seem to struggle ‘too much’ or ‘too often’ with these tough experiences. Going through our own deserts can make us like little flowers that spring up suddenly in the desert–signs of hope. Which is how I think about you and your blogging. Signs of hope.
    Gratefully,
    Elouise

    • Dear sister in Christ, Elouise.
I jus thinking to put a part of your comment into my post. What an insightful comment, sis. I really love your last word that said, can make us like little flowers that spring up in the desert – signs of Hope. Sis, if you don’t mind, I will put a part of yours to mine later. Thank you and have an abundant blessings of God. Happy weekend.

  3. Hey, there! Your post reminds me of Joshua 5:6, “For the children of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness, till all the people who were men of war, who came out of Egypt, were consumed, because they did not obey the voice of the Lord—to whom the Lord swore that He would not show them the land which the Lord had sworn to their fathers that He would give us, ‘a land flowing with milk and honey.’ ” The children of Israel brought 40 years of wondering on themselves because of their disobedience. They did it again in Numbers 13-14. Eeek! May that not be us! Thankfully they got their hearts and actions right and entered the promised land after the Battle of Jericho! (=

  4. Wonderful and much needed post, Karina. It is so important for us to remember to trust in the Lord at all times, especially during our desert experience. That God is always working for our good and He uses the “desert” to accomplish some very important things in our lives. Character being one of them.

    • Dear brother in Christ Jim.
Thank you so much 🙂 yes though seem He silent actually He always for our good and He always with us to passing through the desert. Once again thank you, brother for your lovely comment 🙂 God bless and have a great weekend.

  7. Thank you, Karina! It was so encouraging to read your post. As we all must go through these deserts. It was good to think about it that way. I am currently memorizing the book of James. While I am repeating what he says about trials and temptations to myself all the time, it’s difficult to remember it in the midst. THANK YOU for your beautiful reminder, that God never EVER leaves us! Blessings to you, sweet blogging friend!

    • He’ll sister Heidi,
You are welcome 🙂 Thank you for your lovely comment, sis. Sometime it’s so hard to keep believe that God will always with us especially when He looks silent. Thank you for reading, sis. God bless you 🙂

  8. Karina, meaningful and true. I have been through much in my life, learning that there will be times of plenty in our lives and times of drought. But through it all like Job, will I only accept the good things and not the bad? I shall always trust in God, and praise His name…for I know he is never far from those he loves. Simply beautiful Karina, you have made my day and thank you for the spiritual hugs you always send my way!

  9. Therefore this evening allow me to encourage all of us to don’t give up and don’t despair. Being in “The desert” is a process of spiritual maturation, make us strong and have unwavering faith.

What a great reminder for all of us Karina. We all need these words of encouragement from the Word. May the Lord bless you as you continue to share His words with us. Lord bless you!

  10. I agree with Terese above…this is absolutely beautiful, sis! I love the thoughts of how if we don’t get sick at times we can’t enjoy our good health, nor even seek it. If we have no trials, we do become complacent and weak. We are not being prepared to fight off the battles we will face with the evil one, and there will be battles as we know!

In some cases, the time to take stock in our lives is not in times of trials, but in times of peace. If we live for God, we will sometimes suffer for our faith. This is not to say we can’t enjoy times of quiet and joy. But if we aren’t being taught and prepared of God for long periods of time, perhaps we should take a look at ourselves. It could be that we have wandered off the narrow path. That’s just a thought to ponder…

Thank you for the new post, Karin! Your ability to help us see a spiritual story is a talent!!

May the Lord bless you and your days…

    Steve

      • You know how proud I am of you and the example you set in so many ways in your life, sis!

Just don’t change except to grow even more lovely in the Lord…

        Steve

  11. It’s so refreshing knowing that God walks us through our lives DAILY. One reason why Liverpool FC’s slogan strikes a chord with me; “You’ll never walk alone”.
Reminds me of my Saviour and Friend.
    Jesus is simply THE BEST!

    • Hello there,
Thank you very much for visiting and reading my post 🙂 Yes indeed God will never leave us walk alone and Jesus our God is simply the best 🙂 Thank you and many blessings to you.

  13. Of course Karina, I was Molested from the age of 3 by 4 different men and raped by a Doctor when I was in my early teens so I would appreciate when I wasn’t and also be prepared for the constant bashing’s my first husband gave me even while I was pregnant and this would also insure that loosing my 7 Babies would not really worry me either.

James 1:12-14 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that Love Him. Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.

Yes we will go through testing and temptation but they will not be from God, He also does not leave us in the desert for years like the Israelites who did not have the indwelling of The Holy Spirit.

We are no longer under the Old Covenant, Pentecost has come and we are conformed into the image of Jesus as God puts us to the test by giving us opportunities to walk in the Fruit of The Spirit, yes to show His Love, Kindness, Patience with those who are hurting and to give help those in need and to be self controlled in not being friends or joining in with what the World propagates and when we choose to do these things we are empowered to do them which puts our Carnal flesh to death as we aim to be perfected in Love, good and evil cannot co-exist.

God keeps us from the fire of the Oppressor as we see confirmed in the Scriptures below and the Fire of the Holy Spirit does not burn us but melts the icy edges of our heart so that we can fulfill willingly all that God has prepared in advance for us to do and He does this by blessing us and showing us just how much we are Loved.

Isaiah 43:1-3 – Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name; you are mine. When you go through deep waters and great trouble, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown! When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you. For I am the LORD, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Saviour.”

Jeremiah 29 :11-12 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of Peace and not of evil, to give you a Future and a Hope.

Lamentations 3: 33 For God doth not afflict willingly nor grieve the Children of men.

    Christian Love – Anne.

    • Dear sister, Anne.
Thank you very much for your such insightful comment 🙂 I am so touched and moved read your story. But God’s really loves you and never leaves you so you can passed through the trails. Thank you for your needed to ponder Bible verses, sis. Pray for you and your family. May God always bless you abundantly 🙂

      • Thank you for your response Karina and we always need to remember as the Scriptures confirm, that our hard testing and temptations do not come from God, all good things come from Him and when we have this assurance we Trust Him in our heart not just our heard.

Hebrews 4:15-16 For we have not an High Priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

        Blessings – Anne.

  14. I’ve been away for a couple of months, but am so glad to make the rounds of my brothers and sisters in the Lord. I found this so very encouraging and so very true. The desert experience will never be totally gone as long as the dust of our bodies remain, but the Lord HAS promised that He would never leave us nor forsake us. The keyword is “never!” He truly is, as Proverbs says, a “friend that sticks closer than a brother!”
It is the desert experiences that make us into the beautiful flowers that Sister Eloise stated. It is the desert experiences that create in us the stronger faith, the unwavering belief that our Lord is ever with us, no matter what we may go through.
Our Heavenly Father is never surprised by what we go through, for He truly does know all and He DID know us before the foundations of the earth, and especially in that should be assurance for when you truly believe and not just believe, but KNOW that our Heavenly Father knows all things, we know He does have our back, that our way is prepared for us as Psalms 37 speaks of. He is never far from us and these experiences create in us not just a stronger faith, a more persevering knowledge of Him, but a deeper more intimate relationship with Him. Just as the Father is with the Son, so too, we become more and more close to that same relationship. The Father and I become one more and more through the Son as we recognize He is with us through all!

It’s been a while and I have missed reading the uplifting and encouraging articles from many of my brothers and sisters, but now I have a new computer and I’m ready to jump back in again! God bless you for your spiritual sensitivity and insight, but also for your willingness to serve (minister) each and everyone who passes through your site!! God bless you richly Sis! I so look forward to reading more of what I’ve missed!

    • Dear Pastor Roland,
Thank you very much for your biblical response on my post and thank you for visiting. Yes it is so true! The key word is “Never” God never leaves us alone. He never stop to loves us and He never far away from from us. What we have to do is just make and build an intimacy with Him, knowing what should to do, and totally trust Him. He knows the best for us.
I am so glad you could come back to blogging again. Will look forward too your lovely post 🙂 God bless and have wonderful weekend to you.

  15. Very wise words Karina. I have felt those desert times during my life and God though seemingly quiet at times was always still there, I think he was waiting for me to be where He wanted me to be Keep writing your thoughts, they are very good and God bless!

    • Hello sis,
Thank you very much for the comment 🙂 Yes you are so true. Though seemingly quiet, God always be there and watching over us, so actually we don’t have to worry to go through the desert times 🙂 Have a great Sunday, sis. God bless you too.

  16. Very excellent and timely post, Karina! I have been in a wilderness period for over a month, not having any compulsion to keep up with my blog or even check my Reader. It has been mostly R & R, rest and recuperation which has given me time to pursue my art, like embellish a 40×60 giclee for my dentist son-in-law’s dental office, go on walks and enjoy playing music. During these quiet times I have felt God’s presence in nature, praise music, Bible study, and personal revelations through prayer which confirm to me that writing on my blog, like all of my other activities, should serve His purposes, not mine. I have determined to led the Holy Spirit be my Teacher and Guide and help me to become the person God desires me to be. Yes, I believe that everything that happens to us is allowed of God to bring us closer to Him and to make us humble people, and ultimately stronger in our faith. God is in the refining process whether we like it or not, often using Satan to provoke us to develop our character, as He did with Job’s testing. God bless you for your words of encouragement!
    Maranatha; Jesus is coming!

  18. Hi sis…how are things? Do you have any kind of celebration like America’s Thanksgiving? I just wondered if any holiday may be coming up for you…

    Steve 🙂

    • Hello brother,
Unfortunately, in Australia we haven’t celebration day like Thanksgiving 🙂 we just have Anzac day and Australia day. There are not much holiday in Australia 🙂 Thank you for stopping by, brother. God bless you.

      • Well then I guess you have to make everyday a “Thanksgiving” day! Maybe a family day during the week or once a month with a special meal and prayer for your blessings. You don’t want to get too busy for giving thanks…I’m sure you don’t!

        Have a wonderful evening, sis!

  23. Consider it pure joy when we suffer trials…(James 1). Challenges come to us so that we learn to persevere in the faith and grow in it. We don’t like it, but we need it as God’s children. Good post!

Take care sis, and enjoy your evening…

    Steve

    • Thank you very much, brother. Like or dislike there is time we have to experience the desert to know how we strong to rely on God’s strength to go through every problems and trials. God bless, bro. Have a wonderful Christmas season.

      • Yes, the Lord wants us to be well prepared to deal with the evil one, so we are allowed to experience trials at times. We learn to pray more and are reminded how much we need to lean on God above!

You have a super evening and Christmas season full of love and joy!

        Love,
        Your brother Steve 🙂
