Have you heard the story of a little child trying to fall asleep in a dark room? The child began to cry and her mother came to assure her that God was with her and she didn’t need to be afraid. But soon the child began to cry again. She told to her mother “Oh, Mommy, I want someone with skin on!”
She stated something essential to life and faith. God is real but we also need the body of Christ. Abstract ideas are not enough to sustain us. We also need to experience the love of Christ.
We need to put our love and faith in action. We need to share the good news of Christ by loving others as Christ loved us. We need to be God’s hands and feet in the world. The world is in dire need of someone with skin on to show them what real love is.
So we, numerous as we are, are one body in Christ (the Messiah) and individually we are parts one of another [mutually dependent on one another]. (Romans 12:5, AMP)
We truly are mutually dependent on one another. We do need each other. And together we need Christ. Blessedly he protects and cherishes us in many amazing ways. We are his body on this green earth.
For no man ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and carefully protects and cherishes it, as Christ does the church, because we are members (parts) of His body. (Eph. 5:29-30, AMP)
We are members of his body. Our calling is to share God’s love with everyone we meet. Our task is to be skin to the world. What is your place to be skin to the world? How are you going to embody God’s love?
Gracious God,
Thank you for loving us so much that you sent Jesus to us.
Thank yo for calling all of us to be part of the body of Christ.
Thank you for sending us to embody your love to others.
Equip, empower, and encourage us for your service.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen
