I Got The Answer!

“I want to know Jesus Christ more closely. Please guide and take me to Him”

It is the words that I cannot forget forever. Kevin calls me by phone in the middle of the night. At the time he was in America to complete His master program. After that short phone calling, I can’t sleep anymore. I am Crying. I am deeply moved. You know why, this is the answers of my prayer for many years.

This evening I would like to share my story about the power of Prayer. This is about my love story and I am trying to shows how great the power of prayer in my personal life and proves that through a prayer our problem will be overcome.

I met Kevin when I was just one year of college. He was graduate student. He is a very mature guy, smart and brilliant, has a very good behavior. One thing that I really like from him is, He had great respect for a woman and has the mindset that women are not an object but as a subject. We also have a same life perspective and goals.

We are fall in love. But the problem (big problem for me) is, we have a different religion..! Both of us realize it. He knew that my family was very observant Christian family. Therefore we do not immediately decide to make a more serious relationship as lovers because we realized this is a serious problem for us, especially for me and we try to be mature to face this problem.

At that time I was confronted by two very difficult choices. I really love him. He is my first love. But in the other side, I also love and respect to my parents. I could be against my parents’ will. I can use my position as a spoiled single daughter as a potent weapon in order to my desire comes true. But I also realized that it was not good. The 5th Ten Commandments said: “Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you. I can against my parents, but I cannot against the God’s commands.

At a time, Kevin said: “If you want me to be a Christian maybe I will consider it and I will fulfill your wishes.  I immediately said “NO! I don’t want you become a Christian just because you love me. Being a Christian is a calling from God. There is something that moves your hearts to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal savior. Accept God as savior is a spiritual experience”

Brief story, we are separated. After graduated he went to America to take his master program. Before he left, he said: “please pray for me. Please pray for our relationship. I do not know, but I feel sure there will be something happening on our relationship. If it is true, let your God work on my life and I will have a spiritual experience” and I said: “I will! I will pray not for our relationship but I will  pray special for you”

Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” (James 5:16).

After that, I really praying for this problem and there is always in my intercessory prayer list. Time goes by, time after time. I have not seen the answers of my prayers. But I keep persevere in prayer, no matter what the answer. “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.” (Romans 12:12).

Until at midnight on July 27, 2009. He calls me and said; “Karin, I want to know Jesus Christ more closely. Please guide and take me to Him.  I want to be a Christian. Not because I still love you and want to live with you. It’s not my reason. There is something happens to me here”

Three months later he returned to Australia and I see him as a different person from before. I see the light of joy in his face. He was reborn with new identity. He said: “what you said three years ago is truly right. Being a Christian is a spiritual experience and I got it. I faced so many hard problems there and it all makes me despair. But when I see my Christian friends, I look something different with my own life. They are always rejoicing in their misery, they can always be thankful within their adversity. I am envy! I am trying to find out why they could be like that. And finally I found it, all of it because the love and mercy of the Lord Jesus Christ. They have Jesus Christ in their lives. I don’t have it!

In my religion there are no words: “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”(John 14:6).  “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” (Matthew 7.7). Also this one:  “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”(Matthew 11:28-30).

Well my dear friends, I was really experiencing things that are said in James 5:16. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. And when we keep persevere in prayer; God will answer all of our prayer. No matter what of the answer.  More than 2 years I pray for my fiancé. Not only pray for our relationship but indeed I pray that God moved his heart to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal savior. Finally, Praise the Lord! I got the answer of my long pray. Whatever the answer, it is the best for me. Amen.

  1. I’m teary eyed while reading this.. 🙂 I could relate a little.. it’s just that we are already in relationship when I got saved… but I was convicted, baptized and matured earlier than him, maybe because he just followed me and afraid to loss me..but I’m not happy with that, then I just prayed hardly for a year..then God had answered my prayer, he suddenly asked our pastor that he want to be baptized and I was shocked then I realized, i have prayed for it, not only me but also our pastor prayed for it for me..:) Beautiful Story of God’s unending mercies and grace karina..

The experience about the answer of prayer was wonderful, right? If today God answered our prayers, then we do not need to worry about tomorrow. Because tomorrow the Lord will answer our prayers too.
I salute for your honor and obedience to God. Favor of God is upon you.

  4. Hi karina
What a story……Thank you for leading me to this post. You really have an amazing story. I am so encouraged because of it. I saw a few things in this post,
    – The first thing is the power of prayer like you said to me. Prayer is the key and it was very evident in your story.
    – The second thing I saw was you unshakable faith in God.
    – The thing that really blessed me was your unwavering reliance on God’s word. You allowed the word of God to guide through the confusing times in your relationship. The word of God was your measure and that is really important. I see from what you have written that having feelings is not enough. Trusting God’s word, trusting God and prayer are so important in the process…….

When it comes to relationships in my life there are a lot of question marks, a lot of why’s but I see that God is in control. There is a reason for everything that happens in our lives. Thanks Karina for sharing an amazing story!
God bless you and your husband………..

  5. I am glad you got the answer you wanted, for your sake and for your now husband! But as you have said, sometimes the answers are not what we prayed for. In these cases, we must understand that whatever the Lord may do, it is for our best benefit.

When we learn to accept that, then we have grown up in our prayer worship and faith…
