Alexander The Great’s Last 3 Wishes

alexander-the-great-arturas-slapsysAlexander, after conquering many kingdoms, was returning home. On the way, he fell ill and it took him to his death bed. With death staring him in his face, Alexander realized how his conquests, his great army, his sharp sword and all his wealth were of no use.

He now longed to reach home to see his mother’s face and bid her adieu. But, he had to accept the fact that his sinking health would not permit him to reach his distant homeland. So, the mighty conqueror lay prostrate and pale, helplessly waiting to breathe his last. He called his generals and said, “I will depart from this world soon, I have three wishes, please carry them out without fail.” With tears flowing down their cheeks, the generals agreed to abide by their king’s last wishes.

“My first desire is that”, said Alexander, “My physicians alone must carry my coffin.” After a pause, he continued, “Secondly, I desire that when my coffin is being carried to the grave, the path leading to the graveyard be strewn with gold, silver and precious stones which I have collected in my treasury”. The king felt exhausted after saying this. He took a minute’s rest and continued. My third and last wish is that both my hands be kept dangling out of my coffin”.

The people who had gathered there wondered at the king’s strange wishes. But no one dared bring the question to their lips. Alexander’s favorite general kissed his hand and pressed them to his heart. “O king, we assure you that all your wishes will be fulfilled. But tell us why do you make such strange wishes?” At this Alexander took a deep breath and said: “I would like the world to know of the three lessons I have just learnt.

I want my physicians to carry my coffin because people should realize that No doctor on this earth can really cure anybody. They are powerless and cannot save a person from the clutches of death. So let not people take life for granted.

The second wish of strewing gold, silver and other riches on the path to the graveyard is to tell people that Not even a fraction of gold will come with me. I spent all my life with the greed for power, earning riches but cannot take anything with me. Let people realize that it is a sheer waste of time to chase wealth.

And about my third wish of having my hands dangling out of the coffin, I wish my people to know that I came empty handed into this world and empty handed I go out of this world”. With these words, the king closed his eyes. Soon he let death conquer him and breathed his last.

  1. Hi Karina
Thank you for liking my post The Sonship Message. Since your mother is Rebecca Fong, you must also be Chinese too, like myself!

Your post on Alexander the Great was awesome. I believe he died when he was in his 30s! It appears that the Lord has a strong hand upon your life, as He has gifted you with a lots of smarts, & you’re running your own company. And you are also seeking a PHD.

I have 5 brothers, 3 w/PHDs. My wife & I just celebrated our 51st wedding anniversary. This was reblogged from last year

    • I really loved this. I teach high school seniors. I see the panic in some if them that they must reach the highest heights. They must prove their worth as a human by the money they make or the prestige they acquire. Alexander finally saw the truth but unfortunately at the last hour. It is so true when they say absolute power corrupts absolutely.

  2. Thank you for the following and the likes. This is a great post on Alexander. He had everything, but died at 33 with nothing. Our Savior died at 33 with nothing and has everything.

  3. Karina, I always was a history buff but what you shared was a very nice gift this morning with a lot of meaning and wisdom within. His love shines radiantly through all that you share, may His blessings always shower you in great abundance. Thanks for the smile you sent my way, also thank your for the spiritual gift of your visit! Always a blessing, keep sharing, caring and loving God! Blessings to you and your family! I will thanks Him for the beautiful humble spirit He placed deep within you!

  4. “Nothing in my hands I bring:
Simply to Thy cross I cling”

Praise God for the completeness of the salvation He provided in the all-sufficient sacrifice of our Lord and Savious, Jesus Christ! It is ALL because of what He has done!

  5. That is why we say: we brought nothing when we saw the dawn of the day and nothing we’ll take when we leave this world of ours except the Karma with us! Let’s not forget this and transact our day to day functions with poise and grace of our Creator.

  6. Loved this story Karina, I’m looking forward to the others that your going to share. I too share Stories that I have received over the years and jokes too, I very much appreciate God’s gift of laughter.

He also gives us things to enjoy just like a Mum and Dad does apart from the beauty we see all around us He gave man knowledge to invent even toys and yes for grownups too but as your Story shows somethings must always come first especially God.

Thank you for joining up with us Karina and all your support on our Blog.

Christian Love from both of us – Anne

Oh it would be great met a Christian missionary from Indonesia. I really miss Indonesia so much. By the way if they from missionary foundation or something like that? Have a blessed evening.

      • The missionary is sponsored by The International Mission Board of The Southern Baptist Convention.
I have met missionaries from various supporting denominations. I am thankful for their desire to help people in foreign lands with day to day necessities, and with the gospel of Jesus Christ… I didn’t know that you are no longer in Indonesia. I am the USA, in Georgia. May our Lord Jesus richly bless you.

  9. I really don’t see any point Karina in continuing to comment on your Blog when you don’t acknowledge when I do, right or wrong it gives gives me a message that their not appreciated or wanted.

Your helpers may leave Likes and even comment on my Blog but this does not encourage me when I feel ignored by you or anyone else who feels that my heart thoughts are not needed.

Take care – Blessings – Anne

  10. Dear Anne..
I am so sorry. .doesn’t mean I wanted to ignore you. Well I don’t know this is right or wrong, I have missed your comment. And really, I just realized it 😦 I am so sorry for this careless. But really, doesn’t mean want to ignore you..:(

  11. Thank you Karina for correcting the error and not just ignoring it, I too have missed comments and it is why a wait now before saying anything but a good way not too miss them is use a side bar of latest comments, it’s in your widgets, it makes it so much easier to keep up to date, you will see new comments and not miss them unless they are being moderated. Also with your gravator picture it would be helpful to have a link to your Blog so others can find you by your picture.

Why are comments important, I believe based on God’s guidelines that whatever we do we must put Him first and than others, in Truth they go together and show our real heart focus.

So do I just comment to get replies, no sometimes they are needed but without replies friendships can’t grow, or a resolution reached, it’s takes two, so when others deliberately ignore my hand of friendship or even needed correction, it means both are being rejected.

It’s like when we ignore God and don’t put Him first, we are telling Him that other things are more important and when we do this we never feel complete but nor do we if we shut others out of our lives either, just as an Island needs water we need others, because even though it is called an Island, it was originally part of a Continent that has broken away, so it’s not by its self complete and nor is the Continent.

Thank you again Karina and God bless you greatly in your Ministry.

Christian Love from both of us – Anne.
